Constituting part of Robin Day’s Royal Festival Hall collection, the RFH Terrace Table is crafted from black, powder-coated steel, making it profoundly hardwearing, fade resistant and waterproof. Standing on four legs which splay out at a slight angle, the table is attributed a soft yet industrial appearance.
The frame is CNC bent and welded together, before being welded to a 3mm steel plate. The entire leg is electroplated and powder-coated. The table top is made using compact high-pressure laminate with a uniform black-coloured core, single-sided decorative acrylic lacquer on the top side and decorative melamine resin surface on the reverse.
Robin Day (1915-2010) grew up in the furniture making town of High Wycombe, surrounded by timber yards and cabinetmaking workshops. After graduating from Royal College of Art in London, his dream of becoming a furniture designer was put on hold due to the outbreak of World War II. He instead developed his skills making drawings and models for architects, signwriting, producing showcards for fashion boutiques and teaching technical drawing and lettering part-time. He later went on to become an established exhibition designer before becoming a prolific furniture designer.
