The Model 597, a lamp designed by Gianfranco Frattini in 1961, marked his entry into lighting design. Its unique cylindrical shape, adorned with playful fringes, concealed its versatile functionality. Now, after more than six decades, the Model 597 returns, showcasing Frattini's enduring blend of versatility, elegance, and whimsy. This iconic design, which solidified Frattini's status as a lighting master, pays tribute to his material affinity, functional focus, and construction ingenuity.

Inspired by fashion and Italy's 1950s bar curtains, the Model 597 features nylon fringes on a diabolo-shaped aluminum base. Six lateral bulbs surround the central core, with an additional upward-facing bulb. This design creates a 360º ambient light that diffuses through the fringes and an uplight reflected by the polished-aluminum surface, controllable with a dual-button switch.

GUBI, in collaboration with the Frattini family, has faithfully recreated the Model 597 Floor Lamp from Frattini's original drawings and an original example. They've also introduced a smaller tabletop version, maintaining the original's functionality and aesthetic impact, with four lateral bulbs instead of six. Both the Table and Floor Lamps emit a 360º indirect light, softened by the fringes for a warm ambient glow. The double light switch allows for individual control of the uplight and lateral lights, adapting easily to different functions and moods.
