Did you know, that Arne Jacobsen originally designed the Ant™ chair as a three-legged chair? Today, the Ant™ comes in different types of veneer, as well as two finishes: coloured ash or lacquer. All chairs are made of pressure moulded sliced veneer. The base comes with 3 or 4 legs (stackable in two heights) and is made of chromed steel tubes.

The shell is steam bent in one piece made out of 9 layers of veneer. These layers are always lined with Indian cotton on the inside.
The chair is available in 9 natural wood types and in 2 colours in fully lacquered (the grain is NOT visible and two chairs will always be identical) and coloured ash (the grain is visible and two shells might not be 100% identical).
The base is made of chromed steel and comes in one height (43 cm) only

Arne Jacobsen's cooperation with Fritz Hansen dates back to 1934. However, it was the Ant designed in 1952 - succeeded by the 3107 series - that propelled his and Fritz Hansen's names into furniture history.
Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) was very productive both as an architect and as a designer. At the end of the 50s Arne Jacobsen designed the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and for that project the Egg, the Swan, the Swan sofa and Series 3300.
Arne Jacobsen was and is an admired and outstanding designer. While the significance of Arne Jacobsen's buildings was less appreciated, his furniture and other design work have become national and international heritage.
