Our new Cult Singapore showroom is now open! We are delighted to introduce Ravi Shankar and Ron Sim from our Cult Singapore team, who both have extensive experience in the design industry and Singapore market. Read on to get to know Ravi and Ron, including their favourite design pieces from the Cult collection.
Ravi Shankar, Business Development Manager at Cult Singapore
Ravi started the Cult office in Singapore in 2017 after having held various sales and business development roles in the industry over the last 10 years. Ravi’s entry into the design industry came after many years as an English teacher and was a result of his growing interest in Danish furniture, particularly the designs of master chair maker, Hans Wegner. His background in education lends nicely to his motivation to tell as many people as will listen about good design and why you should invest in it.
Ravi's favourite pieces at Cult include the nau Nami armchair, Lucca portable lamp and Sequence table.
NAU Nami Armchair by Tom Fereday // Ravi shares, "The generosity of the Nami armchair’s form attracts me greatly and I just want to sink into the plush, voluptuous seat with a whisky in one hand and a good book in the other."
&Tradition Lucca Portable Lamp by Space Copenhagen // Ravi shares, "The Flowerpot VP9 portable lamp makes all the headlines, but I personally prefer the Lucca for its versatility. It’s soft warm glow brightens up any space and the clever integrated hook detail in the handle means you can hang it from a tree branch, clothes line or other suitable edges for overhead illumination outdoors."
Coco Flip Sequence Table // Ravi shares, "The Sequence table range brings some vitality and a pop of colour to any space it is placed in. The playful aesthetic and simplicity of form resonates with anyone who appreciates timeless design."
Ron Sim, Commercial Sales Consultant at Cult Singapore
Ron has a background in interior architecture and has spent four years in Ministry of Design on projects of varying typologies. In 2015, Ron moved on to the furniture industry and subsequently joined Cult in 2019. He enjoys working with designers and clients closely to elevate their interior spaces with well-designed products.
Ron's favourite pieces at Cult include the Develius sofa, Sia chair and New Order system.
&Tradition Develius Sofa by Edward van Vliet // Ron shares: "Although I am unfamiliar with Edward van Vliet’s work, I was immediately taken by the Develius when I first saw it. It was a quick unbiased impression. What seems like a universal sofa is transformed by the small base detail that cuts in sharply, elevating the block off the floor."
HAY New Order System by Stefan Diez // Ron shares, "The New Order system seems so unassuming, almost unphotogenic. But when you encounter the New Order in person and realize its modularity and simplicity, you can see how it will work in all kinds of spaces. Sometimes, the unassuming pieces are far more important to activate the spaces we live and work in."
NAU Sia Chair by Tom Fereday // Ron shares, "No fancy mechanisms, just tension from the steel frame and we have a backrest that moves with you. Tom Fereday’s work is what the design industry needs more of – rather than the fluffy luxurious repetitions that come out of design fairs year after year, he puts out clever pieces that stand out from the competition."
