Keel is a simple coffee table that is organically shaped and where volume is essential. The thought of how an otherwise flat and angular table concept can be transformed into something round and soft has been played with, and there is an exciting construction under the tabletop, a place that rarely attracts attention.
The coffee table is a result of Lise Vester’s characteristic work of examining the balance between a light and heavy expression, and a curiosity toward finding both strict and organic lines that complement each other. Keel is inspired by the keel on a boat, which is the element that keeps the boat in balance and prevents it to capsize. The table too is kept together by the keel, which provides a beautiful detail under the tabletop.
Depending on which angle it is viewed from, the table seems both light and heavy. In general, Keel is a table that has many contrasts, it has a lightness in its expression but, at the same time, it seems at first glance very massive. Through this light and heavy expression, Keel is a design you can keep exploring.
