The armchair honours Vico Magistretti who designed the original red Carimate in 1959 for the golf club Carimate in Italy. The details make this anniversary edition by Fritz Hansen truly special. The flag line seat is inspired by the original straw seat, honouring the original aesthetic, without risking the organic decay associated with natural straw. Fritz Hansen has used European, GMOfree flax for the flag line - 110 meters are woven by hand to create the beautiful, organic seat.
Small changes to the seat height and backrest design have been made for comfort. And the chair is available in red and black lacquer to honour earlier versions of the design.
Every chair is individually numbered for authenticity and longevity. A brass plaque under each seat marks its unique number.
Vico Magistretti was born and educated in Milan. His award-winning designs are exhibited at design museums worldwide; he has worked together with many prestiguous companies throughout the world. Magistretti is an honorary visiting professor at the Royal College of Art in London.
Approx. 80% of Magistretti's products designed since the early sixties are still in production. His immense success is attributable to the simplicity and modesty in his easy, elegant form idiom based on established and natural shapes - yet with the respect for cultural and historic values and traditions.
This is obvious in his designs for Fritz Hansen, Vico and VicoDuo.rking for Zanotta, Porro, Magis he uses fibreglass, gels, aluminium foam, neoprene and three-dimensional textiles.
