DENFAIR 2019 | TOP PICKS

The fifth edition of DENFAIR is set to be the biggest and most attended to date. With over 300 brands and a jam-packed program of installations, activations and happenings, we’ve pulled together our top picks for the three-day trade fair that inspires, connects and curates the best design in our region.

EASEL PROJECT//

Conceived and curated by our very own NAU designer Adam Cornish, along with designer Marcus Piper, Easel is an independent initiative that brings together a collection of eight internationally recognised creatives to create eight original works, in collaboration with Architectural products supplier, Axolotl.

DENFAIR 2019 will see the launch of Easel Collection One, with EASELs created by NAU designers Adam Cornish and Adam Goodrum, the internationally renowned Jaime Hayon, as well a handful of incredible Australian designers including Louise Olsen, Marcus Piper, Belynda Henry, Ham Darroch and Rachel Derum.

#FUTUREWORK BY FUTURESPACE//

Experience the NAU Chameleon table and Kubrick stools in action at DENFAIR’s new workspace precinct by Angela Ferguson and Gavin Harris of Futurespace, which centres on an inspired installation called #futurework. Comprising a series of three immersive spaces, the interactive structure illustrates the unique social, collaborative and solitary modes of productivity in the contemporary Australian workplace.

On Thursday June 20 at 12.10pm, join Cult Founder and Director Richard Munao at #futurework as he participates in a series of short talks on virtual reality, Australian design and wellness.

WALLPAPER* CHALET RESTAURANT

Wallpaper*, the global design authority, is coming to DENFAIR in 2019 as the show’s Principal Media Partner. To honour the new relationship, the publication will have a notable presence on the exhibition floor, in the form of a highly conceptual eatery – which we can’t wait to experience.

Harnessing the theme of winter, the Wallpaper* Chalet will poetically evoke the atmosphere of a snowy alpine lodge. The multilayered design references forms and textures inherent in mountain structures, with material supplied by Kennedys Timber, and furniture by Ross Didier and James Richardson. Look out for the HAY PC Portable Table Lamps by Pierre Charpin.

LIVING BAR//

Part greenhouse, part speakeasy: debuting at DENFAIR 2019 is a curious installation taking local food sourcing to the next level. NAU designer Adam Cornish has teamed up with green infrastructure specialists Junglefy to create a lush living cocktail bar that grows its own ingredients. These herbs and botanicals will be gradually harvested from the bar walls during the three days of DENFAIR, making for a dynamic and organic installation that will change with every sip. The Living Bar is complete with NAU Strand chairs, designed by Adam Cornish.

GOOD DESIGN AUSTRALIA//

Get an exclusive sneak preview of a selection of entries nominated at this year’s Good Design Awards – ahead of the Ceremony in Sydney on 11 July – from the Furniture & Lighting, Housewares & Objects and Hardware & Building categories. This collection of exemplary everyday objects provides an informative picture of our nation’s leading design, and you may even find a NAU piece or two amongst the selection.

PALISADES//

Palisades is an immersive textural landscape inhabited by New Zealand designers Nathan Goldsworthy, Tim Webber and Think + Shift; along with supporting works by local designers and artists. Drawing inspiration from the fortifications that once protected early settlements positioned on sloping hillsides throughout New Zealand, Palisades features curved walls fabricated from softly wrapped tubes which echo these ancient defenses and guide you through intimate, subtlety illuminated spaces with dampening audible and visual noise from the surrounding environment. Supported by Autex Industries and The Designers Institute of New Zealand, Palisades is a celebration of contemporary New Zealand design and craft.

COCO FLIP (STAND #511)//

Coco Flip is a Melbourne based furniture and lighting design studio established in 2010 and run by NAU designer Kate Stokes and Haslett Grounds. They work closely with local craftspeople and manufacturers to create lasting products with depth of character. This year at Denfair, Coco Flip are set to launch their two newest collections - Honey and Sequence - and we can't wait.

Stand #511 takes inspiration from the Art Deco movement, with two large archway entrances that welcome visitors into the V-grove clad stand, and a huge circular opening in the ceiling which references the architectural work of Roy Grounds.

DESIGNERS MEET DESIGNERS//

On Saturday 22 June, 55+ local and international designers will appear at DENFAIR to discuss their work at participating stands, and we’ve locked in our NAU designers between 10am-2pm to debrief on their newest designs. Joining the NAU collective for Designers Meet Designers is Shelley Simpson, Founder and Creative Director of Mud Australia and Stephanie Moffit, Design Director of Mokum.
